There are two pieces of advice that I think are partly true and very useful.  The first is, “Don’t take it personally.”  That is, try and look for the truth in a criticism – as if it was about someone else.  The second is, “Take personal responsibility for your situation”.  That is: do what you can with what you’ve got.

These two pieces of advice can seem contradictory.  I think that “not taking it personally” can actually help us to take “personal responsibility”.  I have a guest post on the Psychology, Philosophy and Real Life blog about this.  It’s called Taking it Personally and Personal Responsibility.  I hope you like it.
