I have a guest post on the Psychology, Philosophy and Real Life blog. It is a way to reply (at least internally) to those who try to minimise the impact of unpleasant events on us. It is a phrase used in that wonderful novel Catch-22. The phrase is used by the main character Yossarian. Yossarian is on an air force base during World War 2 and discovers that people are trying to kill him – by doing things like firing anti-aircraft guns at the bomber he is in. Someone points out that they are trying to kill everyone, to which Yossarian replies, “What difference does that make?” What indeed!

In the comments on the post Barbara pointed out that the question can be heard in a minimising way as well as a reply to stop minimising. So I want to emphasise that my intention is to have a way of stopping the minimising. The post is called What Difference Does That Make: empathy, pain and understanding. I hope you like it, Evan.
